Shelves are a super creative way to add storage or a special touch to any space. Brack mounted, floating, built-ins, corner shelf - when smartly planned they can transform your house!

The good thing about shelves is that they are 100% customizable, which means, they can fit into any space! You can also get them made from an array of different materials: softwood, hardwood, plywood, metal, acrylic, there's really a shelf type for everyone. Plus, they can have different finishes such as paint, lacquer, metal, or formica.

Where can I install shelves? ( You might ask) And the answer is: anywhere! That's why they became so popular and beloved! Kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, nurseries, living, and dining rooms, shelves always have their space.

Even with their popularity and special place in our hearts I get lots of questions on how to decorate shelves. We see so many beautiful pictures on social media and can't quite figure out what to do with what we have in our house. Why is that?

We have to remember that all pictures we see on the net have been staged beforehand. They have been styled for that specific photoshoot. They purposefully look very clean and perfect.

How about our homes? If we just copy what we see online our home will have no personality. The secret to styling floating shelves, built-ins, or any type of shelve is to add objects that tell our story. When we look at pictures online, for example, we see no family portraits on those beautifully styled shelves. Why not?? Because they have to be de-personalized for the photoshoot. But in your house and on your shelves, you should do the opposite! Add pictures, souvenirs from a trip you loved, books you've read, plants, and anything that reflect your personality! (I'm sure you have a great one!)

Last but not least, shelves get dusty guys! If you don't think you can keep up with them, then invest in some closed cabs. A nice-looking shelf starts with the dusting rag and finishes with the story behind the person styling it.
